Polynomial Divisions

You must be aware of Division right, might have solved many problems in your junior level classes, there are many methods of division and one among them is Polynomial Division. You will start understanding this more better once you read this.

Introduction of Polynomial:-An algebraic expression in which the variables have only non negative power is called Polynomial.

Examples: x2+3xy2+4x5: 3x4 +4xy.

Polynomial Division:- If a polynomial is divided by something which is more complicated than just a simple monomial, then we need to use a different method for the simplification. That method is called "long (polynomial) division method. One polynomial may be divided by another of lower degree by long division (similar to arithmetic long division).

There are two ways to calculate a division of polynomials. One is long division and a second method is called synthetic division. Synthetic division can be used when the polynomial divisor such as x-2 has the highest power of x as 1 and the coefficient of x is also 1. Otherwise, such as , a long division process must be used. Both methods will be demonstrated.

Find an example which will help you understand the concept better.

Simplify
(x^2 + 9x + 1)/(x + 7)

This can be done in either of two ways: I can factor of quadratic and then cancel the common factor, like this:

    (x + 2)(x + 7)/(x + 7) = x + 2

But what if I didn't know how to factor? I can always use long division:

Don't forget to change your signs, when doing the subtraction.

The answer to the division is quotient, the polynomial across the top: x + 2

So, this is quite simple right. This will help you solving polynomial division.

Friends, remember knowledge is vast you just gain and gain try all methods to increase your knowledge and success is at your doorstep. Well now its time for you to post your comment on this.
