Word problem using division method

We have been solving problems on division from class one. I am sure you are aware of using division method but have you tried using it in a word problem, lets work on it. Here we have some word problems using division method. This will be useful for 5th and 6th grade children.

Word Problem no.1:-

a) In a school 180 students are selected for the annual day function. The students are equally divided in 6 groups for the school annual day function. Find how many students are put together in a group.

Solution:

Total number of students in the school, selected for the annual day function= 180
Lets Divide them into 6 groups
Therefore 180/6= 30 students.
Answer:- Each group has 30 students in it.

b) Joseph made 448 chocolates. He packed 5 chocolates into each box. Find how many boxes of chocolates were packed and how many chocolates were left unpacked?

Solution:

Total number of chocolates = 448

Each box has 5 chocolates

Therefore 448/5 = 89 remainder 3

He packed 89 boxes of chocolates.

3 chocolates are left unpacked.

These were simple word problems which were used to solve using division method. This will help you divide your things like chocolate, cake and so on with your class mates.
