Solved problems on ratio

We been working on definitions of topics in mathematics and looking at examples each day. I wanted to do something different today, like solve some problems. In my last post i gave the facts of ratio and wanted to work on something related to ratio and therefore thought of solving some problems on ratio itself.

Problems on one term ratio:-

Problem No1:-

What is the ratio in whole numbers for 4 hours to 180 minutes?

Solution:

4 hours in minutes is: 4 x 60

which is 240 so, the ratio is
240: 180 this can also be written as 240/180

Solving, we get 4/3

So the ratio is 4:3

Answer: 4: 3.

Problem No2:-

What is the ratio in whole numbers for 6 hours to 540 minutes?

Solution:

6 hours in minutes is:6 x 60 which is 360

So, the ratio is

360: 540 which can also be written as 360/540

By solving, we get 2/3

So the ratio is 2:3

Answer : 2 : 3.

The above problems were solving one term ratio and now lets check how can two term ratio be solved

Problem no1:-

Find the value of x in the following equation.

2:5= 3: x

Cross multiply it

2*x=3*5

2x=15

Now we need to find the value of x

X=15/2

=7.5

Therefore x=7.5(answer)

Problem No2:-

3:4=x:20

Cross multiply it

3*20=4*x

60=4x

x=60/4

x=10

Therefore x=10(answer)

In this post we saw solving problems on one term ratio and two term ratio. Start working on it. Check out your text books or check out online and solve the problems. Let me know how informative was the above post.
